Five Things Friday – The Return.

Ah with all the back to school and holiday season gone please welcome back Five things Friday.

This week, Five outstanding blog posts:

1. “I’m a Christian, get me out of here” from Girl with a Satchel.

A powerfully honest account of how following God will change your life.

2. “Dear Men, Date a girl who reads.” by Le Quaintrelle.

Just the pretiest poem about girls who read books.

3. “How not to be a Jerk on the Internet” by Jon Acuff.

A hilarious rebuke for anyone using the internet. Honestly you know you have done at least one of these things!!

4. “Hebrews” by Jim LePage.

Great look at Hebrews Ch11.

5. “Where Rock Stars go to die” by Ted Kluck and Ronnie Martin.

This made me laugh out loud, although I completely object to any Christian artist be branded a ‘rock star’ but thats another story.

So enjoy until next time x

Well, excitement all round when I spotted Andy brandishing a beautiful little bag on Style Scrapbook.

Perfect little shape and size.

Problem: I cant get my hands on it! Andy partnered with Kipling to produce her perfect bag, designed especially for and by her. It was avaliable on sale , but was a limited edition and I have well and truely missed that boat.

Solution: This little Zara number? Mmmm, not quite but nearly hitting the spot. Must keep searching.

What would your dream bag be?

BookLook – Paperboy

“If someone hits you, you hit him back harder. It felt satisfying and powerful, but I knew this way solved absolutely nothing. I saw it every day in Belfast. Tit-for-tat for tit-for-tat. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a Catholic for a Protestant. Men excusing heinous acts of inhumanity to protect or liberate ‘their’ people, belligerently sowing pain and bitterness for generations to come. I suppose it made them feel powerful too. I got a little taste of it that night with my father and the wee hood, but I spat it out. It sickened me. There had to be another way. I resolved that I would be Belfast’s first pacifist paperboy.”

Verdict: The quote above is probably an unfair representation of this book. ‘Paperboy’ is first and foremost a hilarious memoir from Tonys days as a paperboy, secondly it a love letter to all that was good about 70′s Belfast, lastly it s a political commentary bout the troubles.

It is a must read for any child of the 70′s. If I had my way we would hand it out at airports with any ticket to Belfast.

Psalm 84 v 10-12

A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.
The Lord will withhold no good thing
from those who do what is right.
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
what joy for those who trust in you.
